BTF – Call for beamtime – 2026

Dear BTF user,

We are glad to inform you that the LNF Beam Test Facility (BTF) will be open for external users’ beamtime in the following period:

April 13th, 2026 (week 15) – June 29th, 2026 (week 27).

We invite all interested colleagues to submit beamtime requests through the BTF call management software:

The submission period will:

  • start TODAY
  • close on 05/03/2026
BTF ENVIRONMENT

BTF2: the available line/hall for users, some remarks:

  • Two gas feeding lines are now available. Only non-toxic, inert gases are permitted.
  • Maximum multiplicity: 10^6 particles/s.

BTF1/BTFEH1: not available to users.

IMPORTANT: Beam periods will be assigned in units of weeks, from Monday (starting at 12:00) to Sunday, with possible overlap until Monday at 12:00 for setup decommissioning and removal.

Evaluation criteria include:

  • Other relevant references to BTF activities.
  • Motivation and/or reference to approved experiments/scientific committee reports.
  • A list of recent publications citing or acknowledging BTF.

Team requirements:

The submitter will be considered the TEAM LEADER (GLIMOS) for the request and during beamtime.

The TEAM LEADER and all TEAM MEMBERS must each hold an active INFN account (LoA2) to comply with GDPR and INFN IT service requirements. Please follow the instruction from the INFN User portal Manual.

Please note: depending on the number of requests, proposal rejections may occur.

CALL TIMING:
A draft beamtime schedule will be released three weeks before the first beamtime week, confirming accepted applications. Rejections will also be communicated.
After assignment, schedule modifications may still be possible. All affected users will be promptly informed.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

The TEAM LEADER is the contact person for the beam request and is responsible for team access procedures, safety, and team creation
